Vernon Charles Belt of Rimbey, Alberta passed away in the Rimbey Hospital and Care Centre on Sunday February 27, 2005 at the age of 76 years following a courageous battle with cancer. Vernon was born on August 25, 1928 in Rimbey. He lived and farmed on the family homestead near Leedale for most of his life, returning to Rimbey to live with his sister Carrol, in September of 2004. Vernon is survived by his special sister Carrol Mannix of Rimbey, Alberta and her children Vernita (Glenn) Carlson, Dallas (Alison) Mannix, Wade (Sheila) Mannix, all of Leedale and Carrie (Richard) Erdmann of New Sarepta, Alberta and their families. Vernon is also survived by his sisters; Donna Unger of Biggar, Saskatchewan, Doris (Ed) Marcum of Edmonton, Alberta and Gladys (Russell) Cole of Rocky Mountain House, Alberta, one sister-in-law, Violet Belt of Rimbey, Alberta, ten nephews, ten nieces, and numerous great nieces, great nephews, cousins and friends. Vernon was predeceased by his parents, Harley and Esther Belt, five brothers, Edward, Dallas, Gordon, Floyd and Francis and by one sister Fern. He was also predeceased by brothers-in-law Bob Unger and Lee Mannix and one sister-in-law, Alma Belt, two nephews, Murray Belt and Marty Belt and one niece Marilyn Marcum. Vern spent his life doing what he loved — farming, fishing, hunting and curling. He also enjoyed playing ball when he was younger. He didn’t travel much though he did make a trip to Alaska with his nephew Marty, and toured to Saskatchewan and Montana with his nephew Wade. Funeral services were held from the Leedale Community Hall on Thursday March 3, 2005 at 2:00 PM with Mr. Dale Belt officiating.. Interment will followed in the Bradshaw cemetery, Leedale, Alberta.
