NACHTEGAELE

May 24, 1927 ~ December 2, 2013

Victor 'Vic' Cornelius Nachtegaele of Buck Lake, Alberta passed away at the Drayton Valley Hospital and Care Centre on Monday, December 2, 2013 at the age of 86 years.

Vic was born and raised in the farming community of North Battleford, Saskatchewan. On April 20, 1949 he was united in marriage to Charlesena Bulbeck, and they would have celebrated 65 years of marriage this April. Vic and Charlie farmed at North Battleford for several years and then moved the family to a ranch west of Bluffton in 1964. After their three children left home, Vic attended NAIT in Edmonton to obtain his heavy-duty mechanic certification. Vic and Charlie then decided to raise three foster boys: Erwin, Malcolm and Trevor at the ages of six, four, and two years. A few years later an opportunity arose to work in Africa for CEDA with his heavy-duty mechanic and grain farming background, and in 1978 Vic, Charlie and the boys spent three years in Tanzania and two years in Sudan. For their holidays they had several different places to visit in that part of the world! In 1999, Vic and Charlie retired to Buck Lake and sold the ranch in Bluffton shortly after. This is a very short version of Vic's life. He enjoyed participating in many sports, and loved community life, dances, traveling, and cards. When he retired, Vic took great pleasure in ice fishing, card parties, camping and the coffee pack, and going for breakfast at the restaurant. He will be remembered for his terrific sense of humour, helping others when needed, and he always knew how to fix something, whether big or small. And, oh my, we can't forget Vic's sweet tooth! Excursions out to the ponderosa for a good visit and Mary's lemon pie, Reta MacLean dropping in with her cakes, cinnamon loafs and jams, and various other people with cookies, muffins and pies.

"Vic will be greatly missed ... leaving behind many lasting and treasured memories."

Vic will be lovingly remembered and sadly missed by his beloved wife, Charlesena 'Charlie'; his daughter, Peggy Mueller; his son, Larry (Sharon); and his youngest daughter, Sheila (Rob) Budd; as well as his foster sons, Malcolm and Trevor Peigan. He will also be lovingly remembered and sadly missed by his sister, Renilda Kemp; sister-in-law, Irene Nachtegaele; brother, Richard (Albertine) Nachtegaele; sisters-in-law, Shirley Kulyk and Vida (Nester) Brunwald; in addition to seven grandchildren; several great grandchildren; many cousins, nieces, and nephews; and numerous cherished friends. Vic was predeceased by his parents, Suzanne and Cornelius; his parents-in-law, Charles and Mae Bulbeck; his foster son, Erwin Peigan; his son-in-law, Norman Mueller; brother, Gus Nachtegaele; and brother-in-law, Steve Kulyk.

A Public Graveside Service in Celebration of Vic's Life was held at the Iola Fairview Cemetery, Bluffton on Friday, December 6, 2013 at 1:30 p.m. with Pastor Kevin Rowland officiating. If friends desire, memorial tributes in Vic's Memory may be made directly to Winfield Community Health Services, Box 114, Winfield, Alberta T0C 2X0.
