Violet Belt

Violet Belt (nee Aske) passed away September 22, 2011 at the Rimbey Care Centre at the age of 85.

Violet is survived by her children Delores Klotz (Keith), Leslie Belt (Barb), and Lydia Wakeford (Eric); five granddaughters, three grandsons, and fourteen great-grandchildren, three sister-in-laws, two brother-in-laws, and numerous nieces and nephews.

Violet was predeceased by her husband, Gordon L. Belt in 2001, her son, Marty C. Belt in 2002, her granddaughter Candice L. Wakeford in 2009; and all of her siblings (four brothers and six sisters).

Violet was born in Nobleford, Alberta to Carl and Gena Aske. At a very young age her family moved to Millet where she started school. At the age of 9 they moved to Leedale, AB.

She married Gordon Belt in Dec of 1941. While Gordon served overseas in WW2 Violet worked for awhile at the Jone's Mill helping her sister Mabel. She also spent time in Black Diamond where she lived with her brother Clarence (Rosie) and worked at the hotel and hand-sewed dresses for a lady. Before Gordon's return she had bought a small house at Leedale.

After the war Violet and Gordon bought a farm at Leedale and had four children. They farmed there for 21 years. They had very busy years and a wonderful family life. Not having electricity till 1950 made household chores extra difficult in those days. Violet was a very hard worker and a great cook. Her weekly baking day is a favorite memory for her family.

Her sewing and knitting kept the family warm. She would also knit for her father-in-law, Harley, and brother-in-law, Vernon. She was a very active member of the Leedale Lady's Aid and would bake up a storm for the country dances and church gatherings, etc.

In 1966 Violet and Gordon left the farm and moved with their 2 youngest children to Kelowna, B.C. There Violet worked at the Capri Hotel and was in her glory to have so much fruit to can, jam, and make delicious pies.

In 1976 they returned to Alberta, living in Red Deer. Violet baked for the Pines Senior Citizen Home for many years, and was the Union Rep for her fellow workers.

She retired in Red Deer but moved to the Rimbey Manor in 2002. For the last few months she has resided at the Care Centre there.

Wonderful memories of Violet will live on with her family that has loved her so much.
