KENNEY


William (Bill) Ivan Kenney was born near Rimbey, AB on October 5, 1914, and passed away April 1, 2014 at the Rimbey Long Term Care at the age of 99 years. He is survived by his sister Hazel Simanton (Bob) of Foremost, AB, sister Daisy Stuart (Derill) of Rimbey, sister Hellen Cook (Bob) of Gull Lake; seven children, Jean Little of Christchurch NZ, Ralph Kenney of Rimbey, Delbert Kenney (Joyce) of Grande Prairie AB, Elva Kenney (Stan) of Saskatoon SK, Harold Kenney of Rimbey, Ross Kenney of Rimbey, Beth Kenney (Damien) of Calgary, 11 grandchildren, 12 great grandchildren, and numerous nephews, nieces, brothers and sisters in law.

He was predeceased by his loving wife Margery Josephine Kenney (nee Murray), his parents Spearman John and Eva May (nee Brawn) Kenney of Rimbey, his brothers John Kenney of Lacombe, Samuel Kenney (Pheobe) of Rimbey, and Raymond Kenney of Rimbey; sisters Martha Craswell (Bob) of Calgary, Norma Gillespie (Andy) of Rimbey, Vi Kenney of Edmonton, Lois Sauve (Eugene) of Leduc, and Minnie Kenney of Rimbey.

Bill was raised on his parents homestead in the Crystal Springs district about 12 miles northeast of Rimbey. As a young man he worked on thrashing crews, both locally and in the Endiang district in Southeastern Alberta, and later drove a crawler tractor and breaking plow for Angus MacKenzie breaking land in the Rimbey area. He met Margery, the local "school marm" teaching at Crystal Springs School, and they married in August 1944. After a short stint farming in the Crestomere area they bought the farm 9 ½ miles northeast of Rimbey, where they raised their family and remained until retiring to Rimbey in 1992. Bill will be remembered and missed by his many family members, friends and neighbours.

A Celebration of Bill's Life will be held from the Peter Lougheed Centre in Rimbey, Alberta on Tuesday April 22, 2014 at 2:00 PM with Reverend David Holmes officiating.
