TARNASKY, Willy

November 2, 1935 - February 26, 2011

It is with great sadness that the Tarnasky Family announces the passing of their cherished husband, father, grandfather and friend, Willy (Bill) Tarnasky of Bluffton, Alberta. Willy passed away at the Northcott Care Centre, Ponoka on Saturday, February 26, 2011 at the age of 75 years. Willy was born in Abenfeldt, Bessarabia, and came to Canada in 1948 with his parents, a sister, and two brothers. The family settled in Medicine Hat, Alberta. Willy's zest for living enabled him to accomplish many of his life's goals. In 1952, he spotted a young girl walking down the street and decided at that moment that he would make that young girl his wife. He did! Willy and Phyllis were wed in 1956, and this was his first major and the most important accomplishment. That union resulted in 54 years of marriage and five wonderful children. In 1954, Willy's dream of becoming a paratrooper became a reality while serving in the PPCLI. He was also a journeyman carpenter in Calgary for many years before his lifelong dream of owning a ranch finally came true. Willy's work ethic was very strong, which he instilled in his children. "He was deeply loved and will be dearly missed by all who knew him." Willy will be lovingly remembered by his devoted and beloved wife, Phyllis; his four sons, Roy (Cisca) Tarnasky of Vulcan; Gord (Sheila) Tarnasky of Airdrie; Glenn (Rebecca) Tarnasky of Rimbey; and Ron Tarnasky of Rimbey; and his one daughter, Ramona Pearson of Rimbey; as well as eleven grandchildren and ten great grandchildren. He will also be lovingly remembered by two brothers, Sid (Vi) Tarnasky; and Fred (Jen) Tarnasky, both of Medicine Hat; as well as many nieces, nephews and friends. Willy was predeceased by his birth mother; his parents; one sister; two young siblings; and his son-in-law. A Public Memorial Service in Celebration of Willy's Life was held at the Last West Community Hall, Rimbey on Monday, March 7, 2011 at 1:00 p.m. with Pastor Bob Millman officiating. Cremation took place at the Central Alberta Crematorium, Red Deer. Condolences to the Family may be expressed by e-mail to: special_reflections@telusplanet.net
