I'm usually not one to look ahead too much and like to focus on the present moment, but this snow has got to go. I'm all for the white Christmas and experiencing the change of seasons, but even just bring on the rain and some sun. I'm excited for summer already, as it means lots more time outside, which is so good for everyone, and very good for one's mental health.
I've spent quite a lot of time indoors this season, caring for my kids, packing to sell our house and just because of those cold winter days, so I'm excited to get outside as much as I possibly can.
Although this year will be the first year I don't start my annual vegetable and fruit garden as we are selling our home, I'm excited to focus all of my energy and attention on my boys. I love watching them explore the backyard, parks and just a different play space. It's so cool to see their imagination come to life with new surroundings.
I'm especially excited to see my youngest little one explore our backyard, as he was just a baby last year and was mostly just interested in the swing and the sand pit, or most often, down for his afternoon nap. I can't wait to set up the yard for him to explore!
One of my favourite things to do with my boys is go to Heritage Ranch in Red Deer. It's absolutely beautiful and the best of both worlds. We get to go on a nice nature walk, look at the horses and they get to play at the park while mom soaks up the sunshine. They have the option of a sand playground or rubber, which is nice. One is also for older kids and the other for younger ones. The shady one is our go to on those super hot summer days. Ah all this talk has me so excited for summer time. First let's get to spring!
It's amazing how fresh air and sunshine can just do wonders to your mental health. It can be hard being inside a lot in those dark winter months, but when that sun is out, it's important to get out there, especially with the kids, as they too, need to stretch and run around and just be kids. My boys love just being in our backyard, exploring and playing trucks. They are at the age now where they love to play together and use their imagination. It will be sad to move away from our home, which is the only play they know, and where they grew up, but I'm excited for a change and bigger space for them. My Pinterest mind is going wild with outdoor play ideas for the next house. One of them includes a built in construction sand pit, which I think they will love!
First things first, no more snow please Mother Nature. Let's keep the sunshine coming and up those temperatures.
