Cold weather really slows things down

The cold is a good excuse to slow down and spend time together.

I know we live in Alberta, and it gets cold here, but man, there's been a few days of pretty extreme temperatures. I'm used to those -15 to -20 days, but wind chills of -30 or more I just can't do. You will find me hunkered down in my home with some tea and a heated blanket. Not to be dramatic, but these temperatures really make me want to move to a warmer place.

I'm already getting excited for spring and summer to come. I can't wait to see more sun, and those brighter decor items around the stores. It does wonders for the mental health, at least for mine.

With this cold weather comes trying to find things to do to keep not only yourself busy but your kids, if you have them. For us, it's been just play, play, play, which the boys love to do. It's hard to do anything in this cold weather. Even getting to and from the car, and in car seats is quite the chore. My kids love winter, but not this cold of a winter. Even in those milder winter temperatures they only want to be outside for so long before it becomes too much.

One of the hardest things to do in this weather is move, which is why we are planning to list our home in April or May. This weather still unfortunately puts a halt on our ability to get stuff moved out of our house to a storage locker, as it's just too cold. We've been hard at work packing each week, trying to get a head start on our move. With kids that can prove quite difficult at times, as they just want your attention.

I've noticed with age that I just can't stand clutter. It stresses me out to no end, but unfortunately, when you have kids, that can sometimes happen with the heaps of toys or things that seem to gather on the floor or under the couch. Don't even ask me how many times I've had to move our couch to get out piles of toys, socks, etc.

Sometimes, this cold can just give us an excuse to slow down a bit and enjoy one another's company. Watching a movie on the couch, making hot chocolate and just being together building something or creating art, can be a blessing.

With the recent tragedies in the news lately, it's really important to realize how lucky we really are. Hug your loved ones tight, spend that time together and try not to sweat the small stuff. At the end of the day we have a roof over our head, good food to eat and one another. That's really what's most important.
