Let change positively influence your life

Last week, I spoke of having a plan and how procrastination can interfere with that. But what I did not touch on was what happens when bigger things hinder your plan. What happens when life throws a wrench into the gears?

When you map out your life, and then have a major event interrupt that, it can be devastating — whether that map extends only a few days or a few years. Personally, I have a long map already drawn. And it has had to be redrawn many times due to unexpected events. Now when these events occur, I feel the life I planned for myself is not going to materialize. Furthermore, it’s a substantial disappointment. So how do we avoid rewriting our lives every time the design must change?

I believe the answer to that is you really can’t evade the inevitable. Are we going to fashion our lives around change? Do we really want to avoid it in the first place? It does in turn open new doors and opportunities. I truly do recognize that this perspective helps no one. Although, what else can be done, other than make no plan at all?

Look for ways to benefit from the changes in life rather than have them be a negative force. Don’t look at things that come up as a hindering aspect, and look for the opportunities hidden inside. Let’s expect life to throw curve balls and I think we will all be just fine.

Let change influence your life, accept its challenges and be grateful different opportunities are being provided. They may not be the ones you expected, or even wanted, but try and make it work. Value your ability to alter your design and live your choices day proudly by day.
