Store owner wants seatbelt check moved

Is there nowhere else in town that the police could set up their seatbelt check besides in front of my store?

Dear Editor,

Is there nowhere else in town that the police could set up their seatbelt check besides in front of my store? It takes up customer parking spaces, idling engines discharge fumes that come in the door, and even the no parking spot in front of the loading dock is used.

When this practice was first started, I asked that vehicles be directed to park across the street just off the alley where it wouldn't affect anything else. The officers complied for awhile, but are now back to having them park in front of the store again. I talked to the sergeant this morning (Jan. 10) and voiced my concerns and objections once again. It appears that I wasted my time and effort.

The police would like our respect, and in most cases they deserve it, but don't we as well?
