Bentley ladies ‘spiel finals go down to last rocks

The Bentley ladies three-event bonspiel took place on March 11-13. The theme this year was “Round the House.”

There were cash donors, also door prize and raffle sponsors, and silent auction items and the lounge was colorfully decorated.

Winning the “A” event was the Sylvan Lake team of Chrystal Graham with skip Karyanne Caines, third Chrystal Graham, second Darlene Wells, and lead Shelly Burton who defeated Nicole Hunter with skip Candace Read, third Nicole Hunter, second Melissa Zarantonello, and lead Ashley Fraser 7-6 by scoring two in the final end.

The “B” event was won by the Rimbey Anna Ledieu team with third Audrey Grinde, second Deb Retzlaff, and lead Brenda Dial.They won 7-3 after seven ends over Diane Jegou from Lacombe who had third Alysha Shymka, second Geri Gordon, and 87-year-old lead Mary Verbunt after running the opposition out of rocks.

In an extra end, after being tied 4-4 after regulation play, the local team of Linda Liner with third Holly Bertoia, second Bernice Pitts, and lead Bonnie Metro won the “C” event against the Miki McMahon team from Rimbey/Bentley/Sylvan with thirdSheila Frayn, second Lisa Hatala, and lead Connie Cartwright when McMahon was just slightly heavy on her last rock draw.

Elisabeth and Urs Mueller sponsored a roast supper on Friday night. Wayne Beauchamp provided breakfasts on Saturday andSunday morning. Rita Mueller supplied sweets to go with coffee.

A banquet catered by Starkist Catering of Rimbey and entertainment with Craig Peterson from Sound Waves Entertainment was held on the Saturday night.

There was a good variety of imaginative costumes entered into the fun costume contest. The winning team was the “AuntJemima’s” with Jeannine Siebold, Candace Wilson, Mary Jo McPherson and J’lyn Bickford.

There was a “doubles board” and a “hog rock pot” adding to the fun.

Prizes were cash.

The Town & Country Mixed Bonspiel was changed to March 18 and 19.

The Bentley Curling Club will be holding their Spring General Meeting on Wednesday, April 13 in the curling rink lounge. The winners of the major $15,000 cash raffle will be drawn for.
