They ended up on the short end of the stick five times in a row, but when push came to shove and everything was on the line, the Bentley Generals overcame their previous shortfalls and put the wood to the Stony Plain Eagles in Game 7 to capture the 2007-08 Chinook Hockey League championships.

As a result of the victory, the Generals are now preparing to travel to Fort St. John, B.C. where they will face the Flyers in a best-of-five series to determine the winner of the MacKenzie Cup, emblematic of the champions of senior hockey in the two provinces.

As for last Tuesday night’s series-final tilt up in Stony Plain, the Generals dominated play in the opening two periods to easily cruise to a 4-0 win and capture their second consecutive league championship.

Mark Woolf opened the scoring at 11:12 of the first period with Sean Robertson assisting on the goal that was scored during a powerplay opportunity with Dean Tiltgen of the Eagles in the penalty box for roughing.

The Generals turned up the heat a notch or two in the second period scoring three more goals including one from Kent Beagle who scored an unassisted tally at 2:15 of the second which was followed under seven minutes later with a goal by Matt Holmes from Darryl LaPlante and Donald Morrison.
