The performers have been booked, a new announcer’s booth and office have been built and the schedule has been set in anticipation of the 79th annual Buck Lake Stampede scheduled for July 10, 11 and 12 with the themes of saluting the 100-year history of the United Farmers of Alberta (UFA).

“It will be a weekend of rodeo, races, horses, western music, parade, cowboy church service, steak supper, pancake breakfasts and camping,” said Dorothy Willows, secretary of the Buck Lake Stampede. “This year we’ll also be featuring a local business cow riding on Sunday as well. Sunday is a little quieter day so we thought we’d try a new event involving the businesses.”

As part of the annual event, the weekend will also feature a parade on Saturday morning that promises to satisfy the appetite of any and all with a passion for the old Wild West.

“We try to have as many horse-drawn floats as possible, but we always try to have some variety,” Willows said. “Of course, we always like to see horses and riders.”

Other events scheduled throughout the weekend include chariot and chuckwagon races, performances by Mark Van Tienhoven as a clown, a pancake breakfast served up by the Winfield Minor hockey clubs, plenty of events for kids and of course, both a parade and the FCA rodeo.

“It’s the biggest annual event of the year in Buck Lake. Because it’s been running for so many years, it’s almost become a bit of a family tradition,” Willows said. “I’ve run into people who’ve said their parents and grandparents took them to the Buck Lake Stampede when they were young and they still attend when possible.”
