The Rimbey Christian School senior Rams hockey team did their part in establishing Canada’s dominance over the Americans when it comes to the grand old game of hockey, and they also spread some joy and good sportsmanship along the way.

Over the weekend of Feb. 20 and 21, the Rams and 26 supporting family members were in Kalispell, Mont. to participate in the Flathead Valley Flames Can-Am Ice Jam where the games were played at an outdoor rink with artificial ice. The flags of the state of Montana, the USA and Canada were strung high in the air. As well, before the tournament final, a group of parents from Rimbey led in the singing of the Canadian national anthem and then went on to help a parent from Kalispell in singing the American national anthem.

Not only did the Rams win the tourney, they also won the event’s sportsmanship award. The winning squad is: (back row) Patrick Jensen, Randy Maconochie, Trevor Weenink, Scott Maconochie, Austin Klugkist and Keaton Craig. Middle row: Evan Buist, Austin Simpson, Riley Carruthers, Jesse Melin, Travis Mayan and Carson Klugkist. Front: Doug Buist, Nolan Carruthers and Avery Weenink.
