A-lady spiel: Bentley ladies bonspiel ‘A’ event winners for the A-lady spiel are lead Ashley Fraser

All three final games of the Bentley “Las Vegas” ladies 20-team bonspiel that ran March 6, 7 and 8 ended early.

Winning the ‘A’ event was the team of skip Candice Read, third Nicole Hunter, second Laura Saydak, and lead Ashley Fraser from Edmonton/Rimbey/Bentley who defeated the local Corry Van Velzen team 8-3 after 6 ends. Ending in third place was Carol Wenzel and in fourth was Sharyn Pahl.

In the ‘B’ event, the local team of skip Karen Jaffray, third Kim Steffan, second Cherie Johns, and lead Linda Schneider easily defeated the Teresa Idland Red Deer foursome 10-0 after 4 ends. Third place went to Christina Rice and fourth to Cindy Gibson.

Skip Rhonda Whittaker, third Jody Fraser, second KaryAnne Caines, and lead Diane Angelopoulos from Ft. McMurray defeated Jen Williams from Red Deer 8-1 after 5 ends in the ‘C’ event final. Finishing third was Bonny Nielson and fourth was Lois Johnston.

The Whittaker team felt they really had got their money’s worth over the weekend. Besides playing six games and winning prize money after each win, there was free food including a banquet, raffles and a silent auction, and games and fun galore.

Friday night a bison supper for the curlers was donated by Elisabeth and Urs Mueller. Saturday and Sunday mornings a free continental style breakfast was available courtesy MGM Lincoln Mercury. A catered banquet by Rochelle’s Bakes & Cakes took place Saturday night at the club. Because of generous sponsors contacted by steadfast volunteers there were also door prizes for everyone.

Best costume was awarded to the Cirque du Soleil “troop”.

The draw master was Ken Brown.

Winning the $1,000 cash/travel voucher “Trip to Vegas” raffle was Joe and Margrit Rohrer from Red Deer County.

Karen Jaffray won the gift basket raffle, and there was a raffle of four rounds of golf at the Lacombe Golf & Country Club.

The next bonspiel is the closing mixed Town & Country slated for March 18-21. Call the club at 403-748-4303 or Krista at 403-848-1250 for more information.
