Lions hosting golf tourney

As summer draws to a close and the number of golfing days left in the year dwindle, golfers are reminded to pick up their clubs and head out to the Gull Lake Golf Course for this year’s Rimbey Lions annual golf tournament.

The Lions 12th annual tournament is to be held Sept. 16 at the golf course with registration and lunch to begin at noon and tee off at 1 p.m.

A steak dinner will follow the 18-hole tournament at around 6 p.m. Tickets are available for those who wish to attend only the steak dinner.

A silent auction will also be part of the day’s activities.

“We are now in the collection process for the silent auction,” said Ted Jamieson from the Rimbey Lions Club. “And I am sure there will be something for everybody.”

Jamieson said the golf tournament has been a popular Lions fundraiser in the past with about 45 golfers participating and around $2,000 raised.

Proceeds go to a variety of Lions projects such as playgrounds, the skateboard park and soccer fields.

He said the tournament is a fun time and golfers who register individually or as a team are sure to have a great time.

“The course is in the best shape I have ever seen it in,” he said. “It is just beautiful.”

As well as numerous prizes, trophies are given out for the ladies’ and men’s low gross score.

Last year’s winners were Wayne McQuiston from Rimbey with a 55, and Lorna Giltner from Lacombe with a 74.
