Feb. 21 was an exciting day for a couple of local Special Olympic
bowlers. Jonathan Authenac and Brandon Heerema participated in the annual
Leduc five pin bowling tournament. It was Brandon’s first Special Olympics
competition and he made quite an impression on his fellow bowlers.
Brandon, whose average is 99, bowled an impressive 176 during his first
game. This allowed him to easily take first place on his lane and in his
division. Jonathan is in his third year of Special Olympics bowling. His
average is 83, but he easily passed that with a score of 121 in his second
game, and took third place in his division. Both boys set a great example
for their fellow teamates as they demonstrated great sportsmanship through
out the tournment. Jonathan and Brandon bowl with the Lacombe affiliate
of Special Olympics, which meets to practice once a week at Ambassador
Lanes in Lacombe.
