The wins kept piling up for members of the Rimbey Boxing Club following another successful tournament held in Lethbridge recently as three of four fighters who duked it out in official bouts came away with victories.

Leading the way was Jonah Kondro who won two fights in convincing manner and was also named the tournament’s top senior boxer. Kondro opened the card in the 141-pound weight class with a flurry and overpowering display to stop his opponent – a Medicine Hat-based boxer, in the second round victory.

The following day Kondro made quick work against a hometown favourite fighting in front of his hometown fans with a solid right hook to the head bringing him to his knees just 30 seconds into the fight.

For his efforts in the two victories, Kondro was named the tournament’s top senior boxer.

Breanna Hollingsworth, who fights in the 100-pound weight class, also came up big with a win over her opponent from the Cougar Club in Edmonton. As well, she also scrapped with her cousin Cassidy Hollingsworth in an exhibition match that Head coach Mike Smith said was a very hard-fought battle, even though there was no official winner.

Fighting in the 132-pound weight class was Daniel Peacock of the local club who also squared off with a Lethbridge opponent. According to Smith, Peacock dominated the fight from the opening bell forcing his foe to take his third standing eight-count by the second round, ending the fight.

Despite putting up a tremendous effort that found him bloodied and battered at the end, Cawl Braithwaite came away empty in the 100-pound weight class against another Lethbridge fighter. Coach Smith said the fight was very close with the outcome being ruled a split-decision.

Smith said a large and appreciative crowd estimated to be 300 or more were on hand for the card, which was held at the Lethbridge YMCA.

Next up for the local team was a card this past weekend at Blue Ridge and following that, the team will head to Edmonton at the end of February for the Bronze Gloves Tournament.

As for the Lethbridge card, Smith said he was very proud of the effort put forth by his fighters and has high hopes for them to perform well in Edmonton.
