Rimbey’s Camille Trautman was recently awarded a prestigious title during a brief ceremony in Calgary recently where she was named the AAA Major Midget Female League’s Top Goaltender for the 2008-09 hockey season.

On the basis of possessing one of the league’s lowest goals-against-averages of allowing just 1.71 goals per game and a save percentage of .932 percent, the 16 year-old was presented with a new Nixon watch and a granite trophy to display her achievements.

Trautman has been playing Midget AAA hockey for the Red Deer Sutter Fund Chiefs for the past two seasons and carried the load for the team by appearing in 31 of 32 regular season games and all playoff games for the Red Deer squad.

Her high-calibre of play this season has carried over from her many successes during her short career.

Trautman has already received many accolades for her play in 2008-09 including being named the league’s Player of the Month for October of 2008 as well as being recognized as Red Deer’s Athlete of the Week in November. In addition, she was also selected to the league’s all-star team including playing in the All-Star Game held in St. Albert this past January.

The future also bodes well for Trautman who will be lacing them up for a showcase tournament to be held in Kamloops, B.C. this April. She has also been invited to tryouts for the U18 Team Alberta entry to the National U18 Women’s Championships to be held in Surrey, B.C. this summer as well as receiving an invitation to another showcase tournament in September in Vermont.

Of note, Trautman’s award wasn’t the only recognition for the Red Deer Chiefs as head coach Doug Young was named the AMMFHL Coach of the Year.
