Mini golf tournament supports scholarship

.

A courageous young man who died this spring at the age of 13, and whose parents were firefighters, will be honored with an annual scholarship in his name.

To raise funds for the $1,000 scholarship, The Bentley Firefighter’s Foundation will host the Justin Bickford Memorial Mini Golf Tournament Aug. 20.

The bursary will go to help a student who demonstrates kindness, concern and empathy for others, traits the Bickford emulated throughout his short lifetime.

The mini tournament promises to be a fun time with a variety of activities for children, including face painting and a chance to jump in a bouncy castle.

Hotdogs, chips and soft drinks will be provided and 50/50 draws will take place.

The event is to be held Aug. 20 from noon to 4 p.m. at the Summerland Leisure RV Park Mini Golf and Driving Range, 11 kilometres west of Lacombe.

The Bentley Firefighter’s Foundation began in 2009 as a way to support the Bentley Fire Department and the community.

The foundation has supported events including Canada Day, the tree lighting festivities and Bentley Days, as well as providing assistance at the Wolf Creek Retirement Banquet.

The foundation also provides the fire department with refreshments when they are called out to emergencies that require extended hours of volunteer time.

The mandate of the foundation is to improve the quality of life for the residents of Bentley and surrounding area.
