Polocrosse is returning to Rimbey this upcoming weekend through a clinic and game.

On Mar. 12 Polocrosse Calgary will be back in town to connect with other equestrians and play a bit of polocrosse. They are hosting a Polocrosse Funday at the Rimbey AgriCentre.

“Polocrosse is actually best described as Lacrosse on Horseback,” said Lesley Plant with Polocrosse Calgary. She said that it differs from polo in that you can only use one horse for a weekend tournament and that you pick up and pass the ball between your teammates, unlike polo in which the ball is hit along the ground.

Plant has been the sport now for 20 years.

“As a rider with an English background but someone that enjoys sport and “horsing around” I was hooked from the very first time I played.

Rimbey resident and club member, Haley Scott asked the group to come up to Rimbey to do a demo during Rimbey Snow Dayz.

“Haley is also a member of the Rimbey Sleigh, Wagon and Saddle Club. Polocrosse was so well received we decided to come up again so folk could come out and try it for themselves. The turnout is great with 30 riders partaking.”

The morning will begin with an introduction to polocrosse. Riders will learn the rules of the game and skills they can use in the game that follows.

The day will begin at 9 a.m. until 4 p.m. The cost is $20 and includes lunch. For more information contact Polocrosse Calgary on Facebook or the Rimbey Agricultural Society at 403-704-9283.
