It was another successful year for Rimbey Falcons Hockey, with about 14 to 18 games a year.

“I think all our teams were very successful. They’ve done very well. Their senior team was a very good hockey team this year,” said Roy Keessar, one of the coaches of the senior team and co-founder of the program with his wife RaeAnn.

Keessar said he figures it’s been about 10 or 11 years since they started the pond hockey program in town.

Ages of the players ranch from ages four to 18, with four different age groups split on the ice.

There are no tryouts for the team, but if they have enough for two teams, they try and split them equally so they are both the same caliber.

Keessar said they keep their costs low, with their registration being quite low for people to sign up.

“There’s families with quite a few kids. We have one family that have five kids playing, so we want to keep our costs down so that it gives everybody an opportunity to play.”

He added that they started the program because lots of families are involved in other school sports and holidays and whatnot.

“This offers the opportunity to do both. If kids miss games or practice because of other sports or family things, it’s not that big of a deal to us. That’s kind of why we started it. Family comes first,” he said.

The Falcons played their final week of the year at the beginning of March, and will lace up again come September.
