Pictured above, the gymnasium of the Rimbey Jr./Sr. High School was the setting for the 2A zone tournament recently to determine which central Alberta basketball teams would advance to the provincial championships held this past weekend at Augstana College in Camrose on behalf of Daysland High School. Among the qualifying teams was the Rimbey senior boys Spartans who advanced after soundly defeating St. Dominic’s of Rocky Mountain House and Central Alberta Christian High School of Lacombe before falling to Daysland in the final of the zone tournament. On the girl’s side, the season ended for the Spartans in Sedgewick at another zone tournament after losing a close one to the host Vikings. On the bright side, the gals won the consolation plaque after defeating David Thompson High School 67-63. All in all, it was a very productive season for the Spartans who finished third in league play, second in their Sweetheart Tournament, third at a tournament held at Rundle College and a second consolation plaque, also at Sedgewick. Unfortunately, results of the boys play in the provincial finals were not available as of press time. – APN Photo
