The Rimbey Spartans High School Football team captured the 2013 Provincial Championship with a 55-52 win over Millwoods Christian.

The boys completed a perfect 9-0 season with a thrilling victory in the Alberta Bowl on Nov. 23 in Calgary. The game was close, but the Spartans never trailed. The nail in the coffin was a punt through the end zone with only minutes remaining to give the Spartans a nine point lead which all but sealed the victory.

Millwoods made a late push by scoring a touchdown on the last play of the game but it was not enough and the Spartans won the title.

It is the second championship for the team who won the Ruby Cup in 2009. It is, however, the first banner recognized by the Alberta Schools Athletic Association as a provincial championship.

Six-man football, which has growing popularity in the province has, received official ASAA status this year.
