Side Street Slammers win slo pitch tourney

Rimbey’s Slo Pitch Association’s annual tournament held May 18 to 21 offered friendly competition, fun, laughter and a chance

Rimbey’s Slo Pitch Association’s annual tournament held May 18 to 21 offered friendly competition, fun, laughter and a chance to experience playing under the lights just like in the big leagues.

Jacy Anderson, who was fortunate enough to play on the winning team, The Side Street Slammers from Rimbey, said the whole weekend was wonderful.

“It was a wonderful time, we had good weather and even a couple of midnight games and lights were brought in.”

Anderson said the Side Street Slammers won the final game in the A division in a hard fought battle against the Not Quite Done team from Edmonton. The game ended with a 9-3 score.

The B division winners were The Dirt Bags who played the The Drunken Monkeys; C division was won by The Diamond Backs over the Ramrods; and the D side was won by The Platinum Shafts who defeated The Thirsty Beavers.

Thirty-two teams competed in the tourney with teams coming from Edmonton, Calgary, Fort Saskatchewan, Camrose, St. Albert and Ponoka.

Beer gardens and a Lions Club concession stand were set up during the tourney.

Proceeds from this year’s tournament will go toward shale for the diamonds and expanding the Kinsmen diamond.
