Stenstrom to be new rec director

Peter Stenstrom, a former town employee who left Rimbey last year to move to Kenya, is coming back

Peter Stenstrom, a former town employee who left Rimbey last year to move to Kenya, is coming back and will take over Rick Kreklewich’s job as recreation director.

Stenstrom, who worked for the town as a recreation program co-ordinator, left last June to work for Africa Inland Missions at the Rift Valley Academy, a boarding school that houses about 500 students. He and his wife Ashley were dorm parents to 20 Grade 7 boys for the first few months of their stay and then looked after 20 grades 5 and 6 boys.

Rimbey CAO Tony Goode said Stenstrom mentioned when he left Rimbey that his contract in Kenya was for only eight months.

“Council and the recreation board wanted me to contact him to see if he would be interested in coming back and he was,” said Goode. “It’s worked out very well for us.”

Stenstrom will take over as recreation director and be responsible for programs, special events, the swimming pool and act as a liaison between the town and the recreation board.

He is to begin his duties May 6.

Former recreation director Rick Kreklewich has begun work in for the Town of Blackfalds in the recreation department.
