After a two-year hiatus, tie-down roper Dean Edge and his horse Sid will soon be off to the Canadian Finals Rodeo.

Edge, who finished fourth in the Canadian Professional Rodeo Association season, is pleased and excited to be competing at the CFR to be held in Edmonton at Rexall Place Nov. 6 to 10. He is also pleased to be so high up in the standings.

“I haven’t been for a couple of years,” he said.

“But I had a pretty good idea I would make it in September. This is my seventh time going and it’s more exciting than ever this time. I have a really good feeling about it. Everything seems to be clicking together well.”

Edge, who turned pro in 2004, credits his horse Sid for being a valuable partner in his rodeoing successes.

“I’ve had him since 2000. He is 18-years-old, but he is very well built and doesn’t seem to get sore. He hasn’t had many injuries. He is a good horse.”

Last weekend, Edge was off to Billings, Montana to compete in a rodeo in which the standings will be used for next year.

“We’re already starting up for next season,” he said.

Being a competitive tie-down roper with a name to be reckoned with at the CFR gives the Rimbey native a natural high, but along with the adrenalin rush that comes along with competing is the thrill of celebrating his daughter Erin’s birthday at that time.

“She was born in 2009 in Edmonton during the CFR,” he said.

As well as Erin, Dean and his wife Jeanine have 16-month-old twins, Lane and Lexi.
