Police are still searching for suspects after an alleged arson at the downtown offices of the Olds Association for Community Living.
Olds RCMP said Monday at approximately 10:30 p.m. on April 19, they responded to a structure fire with the Olds Fire Department.
“Upon arrival, it was determined that the building had been unlawfully entered and there was a vehicle on fire in the garage. The fire investigator attended, and at this time, the fire is considered to be suspicious,” police said in a news release.
RCMP also said the building was spray painted.
Police arrested a youth near the scene, but they were later released without charges. The investigation continues.
Olds Fire Department said it received a call of heavy smoke at a garage next to the offices of the Olds Association of Community Living near 51st Avenue and 51st Street.
Two engines, a rescue truck, aerial ladder truck and command unit and 17 firefighters were on scene to fight the fire, which was in a garage containing a vehicle and various materials.
“The fire remained contained to that structure with aggressive fire attack tactics,” said the fire department in a Monday news release. “There was smoke spread to the main building, but no fire damage occurred.”
There were no injuries reported. A damage estimate has not been completed but damage is expected to be extensive.
“Olds RCMP along with fire investigators determined that this fire was suspicious in nature at an early stage in the incident and have begun a comprehensive investigation as to the cause and circumstances.”
