Rimbey pool’s heating problems may soon be over, as the new state-of-the-art boiler is set to arrive just before the end of the season.

The pool’s boiler was acting up throughout the summer, so a new stainless steel heat exchanger boiler was custom ordered, according to Cindy Bowie, community services director.

The boiler took awhile to acquire as it is custom made, but is expected to arrive this week or so, says Bowie. “Next year we hope to have the boiler in so we have consistent temperature.”

The last day the pool and splash park will be open this season is Sept. 3.

All things considered, the pool and splash park had strong attendance this year, says Bowie.

“It seemed pretty good, there were lots of hot days,” said Bowie, adding that the heat tends to bring people out.

Although the smoke may have deterred some people, there weren’t too many thunderstorms this summer, which tend to keep people inside, says Bowie. “I think it was a pretty good year.”

There were a couple of new lifeguards this year. Heather and Sarah Ritter, twin sisters, started at the pool at the beginning of the season in May.

Other lifeguards returned this year, including some high school and college students who have now completed the Water Safety Instructor (WSI) program.

The splash park ran all season without any glitches, according to Bowie.

She does, however, want to remind users that the water used in the park is recycled and whatever is left on the cement comes back through the water system.

“Make sure you don’t dump [food] on the pad.”

Bowie is now in the process of applying for a grant that would allow the splash park pad to be refurbished with recycled tires.

“It’s a little better on the feet and not as slippery.”

If awarded the grant, she hopes to be able to cover more of the grass as well, as it can be problematic for slips and getting on the pad.

The pool will reopen on the May long weekend, 2019.
