While Canadians from coast to coast were shuttering at the prospects of returning to the polls for another federal election just weeks after the last one, many more, including a majority of Albertans, were much more upset at the prospects of the Conservative government being overthrown in favour of a coalition government led by the Liberals and the New Democratic Party and supported by the Bloc Quebecois.

If you’re reading this, consider it your one and only warning. That’s the message coming from the Rimbey Detachment of the RCMP when it comes to those who choose to drink and drive, especially in light of all the Christmas and New Year’s Eve parties that’ll soon be underway.

Changes to the province’s beverage container recycling program should encourage Albertans to return their empties to one of more than 200 collection sites in the province, including a new location in Rimbey that should be open by this coming January.

Residents of Rimbey and other communities in central Alberta will be seeing a new promotional item on the streets and in parades this coming summer in the form of a 1934 International truck.

With Old Man Winter paying a brief visit to the Rimbey area last week, most residents know he’ll be back soon and that means sooner or later, there’ll be plenty of shoveling the white stuff.
