Some local young Bentley athletes had some unique experiences participating in sports during the summer. Many had the chance to attend the 2008 Alberta Summer Games from Aug. 7-10 in Medicine Hat, and endured very hot conditions.

The 5th annual Rimbey Summer Basketball Camp has once again come and gone and in its wake has left a legacy of continuing to produce top calibre players who in many cases, go on to play college or university hoops.

Alberta Barrel Racing Association’s competition

The Rimbey Agricultural Grounds was the site of eight events in the Alberta Barrel Racing Association’s competition. In all 40 participants were registered in the Open Class with another 20 registered in the Youth Class. For the first time, event winners were presented with new saddles for their efforts including Jessa Galloway of Ponoka who captured the Youth Class and Shayna Dodds, also of Ponoka, who won the Open Class.

McCaughan wins first feature on tough Rimbey track

For the second time this season the Northern Provincial Pipelines Late Model Series has a first time Feature Race winner. Rookie driver Brian McCaughan drove his Lucas Oil/A-Men Contracting #42 Dodge to victory lane Saturday night at Central Alberta Raceways.

Zone 4 boys softball team returns from the ‘Hat with gold medal

This years Alberta Summer games were held in Medicine Hat with over 3,500 athletes participating. The boys softball featured five zones being represented, one up from last year including the Zone 4 boys team which was made up of nine players from the Bluffton Bulldogs, four players from the Thorsby Tigers and one player from Big Valley. The coaching staff was from Bluffton and Thorsby.

Two teams in the Rimbey/Bentley Minor Ball Association will be looking a lot sharper out on the diamond thanks to two local businesses.
