“It is clear that their abhorrence is rooted in politics rather than reason,” says letter writer

Dear Editor; Listening to the Conservative rhetoric these days, you’d think M. Dion’s carbon tax would make the sky to fall. Compare this reaction to how cabinet ministers reacted to Gordon Campbell’s BC carbon tax and you will see a major discrepancy:

“Alberta Energy needs to wake-up; they have forgotten the public’s interest,” writes contributor

Dear Editor; Alberta Energy needs a wake-up call after Jason Chance (Alberta Energy spokesperson), accused ENMAX’s CEO Gary Holden of advocating in his company’s commercial interest (ref: Calgary Herald, “Enmax pushes province for 50-year energy plan”, by Geoffrey Scotton). Chance says Holden is at complete odds with government policy and consensus within the electric power industry.

Previous submitter left unsatisfied by ‘Shoot-Out’ response

Dear Editor; Further to my previous letter of June 17 re: Contributor suggests it’s time to move out Shoot-Out, I attended the Rimbey Town Council meeting on June 24 to present my concerns in greater depth. However, I was very disappointed at the outcome.

Submitter suggests attack ads will backfire on Conservatives

Dear Editor; I cannot remember seeing such a plethora of ‘attack’ ads from a governing party in the more than 50 years that I have lived in Canada. These ads are not only in bad taste; they detract from whatever positive message the government should be attempting to communicate to the electorate.

Letter writer urges public to help refugees suffering in Jordan

Dear Editor; I felt compelled to write you and your readers. I have just recently been made aware of a situation that has touched my heart, and maybe it will touch yours too.

Ag Society frustrated over posturing by Ponoka County re: sale of land

Dear Editor; Over the past couple of months I’ve been asked several times what is happening to the Ag Society’s land deal south of town. Each time I try to explain what seems not to be happening and the discussion gets longer. Perhaps I can try to shed some light on the picture at this time.

“This is an absolute shame for a supposedly independent agency,” write contributors

Dear Editor; Last year the Alberta Energy and Utilities Board (AEUB) was caught conducting espionage against landowners participating in hearings for a proposed 500 kV power line between Edmonton and Calgary. To his credit, William A. Tilleman, the AEUB’s chairman, ruled the whole process around the so-called need to reinforce the transmission system between Edmonton and Calgary was void.

Submitter gives high praise for Anglican Church anniversary effort

Dear Editor; Congratulations and thank you to the committee who organized the celebration of the 100th anniversary of the Church of the Epiphany, Rimbey. The entire weekend of June 6 to 8, 2008 was filled with a variety of successful activities and opportunities to celebrate the importance of that historic Anglican Church.

Government of Canada “fantasizing” over Pakistan war issue, says contributor

Dear Editor; Afghan President Karzai and Canada’s Defence Minister MacKay both made unrealizable statements this weekend: Karzai in threatening to retaliate against incursions into Afghanistan across his country’s border from Pakistan; MacKay by suggesting there was any possibility of a “diplomatic solution to the dispute.”

Vandalism prompts letter in reply

Dear Editor; To the person or persons responsible for the vandalism that has been happening at the Soccer Park.
